Nachdem ja nun der Termin für die Zeugnisübergabe in Cork bereits Vergangenheit ist und übrigens auch ohne meine persönliche Anwesenheit statt fand, wird es m.E. zum Thema Master eigentlich keine Neuigkeiten mehr geben. Natürlich kommen demnächst dann Zeugnis, Urkunden und sonstige Bescheinigungen noch per Briefpost aus Cork, aber das es ein First Class Honours geworden ist, steht ja bereits fest.
Evtl. ist ja auch einigen aufgefallen, dass unten den letzten Einträgen hier

stand. Das hieß im Klartext, dass lediglich der Eintrag von meinem neuen / weitergeführten Blog hier zu Blogger weitergeleitet wurde. Nach diesem letzten Eintrag hier werde ich diese Verknüpfung wieder entfernen und hier geht das Licht aus. Diesmal dann aber auch wirklich. Versprochen! Der Inhalt hier bleibt aber weiterhin als Quell des Wissens und der Unterhaltung für zukünftige Generationen und Nostalgiker verfügbar; zumindest solange ich meine Meinung dazu nicht ändere...

The LLM conferrings already have passed by, with myself being conferred in absentia. Thus, there seems to be no further need for this blog anymore, as the results have been published here (and basically everywhere else, as my First Class Honours degree is nothing to hide from the public). Of course the parchments and other official documents are going to be sent from Cork in the near future, but this does not require any reports here.

Due to the circumstances described above, after completion of this post, I'm going to delete this link between the two blogs. Cork Flooding

Durch das schlechte Wetter der vergangenen Tage kam es in Cork in den letzten Tagen zu einigen Überschwemmungen. Da der Fluss Lee ja (wie den Stammlesern bekannt) quasi überall durch die Stadt fließt, hatte das ziemlich starke Auswirkungen. Auch die Studentenwohnheime an der Western Road / Victoria Cross wurden evakuiert und sind noch nicht wieder zugänglich. Zur Erinnerung: Das ist dort, wo ich auch bis Anfang Juni gewohnt habe!
Und da ja bekanntlich Bilder mehr als 1000 Worte sagen, hier ein paar willkürlich zusammengeklaute Aufnahmen der Tragödie.

As you might have heard from the news, there was (partially still is) some major flooding in Cork during the last few days. Basically the river Lee burst its banks. Given the omnipresence of the river in the city, the effects are quite substantial. Especially ther area around Western Road / Victoria Cross had to be evacuated (that's where I lived until June). The attached pictures (randomly pirated from various websites) show the extent of the masses of water.

Results...!

Endlich ist es soweit: Die Ergebnisse des letzten Jahres sind vollständig verfügbar! Mittlerweile ist dann nicht nur sicher (so sicher wie vorläufige Ergebnisse eben sind), dass der LL.M. bestanden ist, sondern auch, dass sich das Ergebnis sehen lassen kann. Glücklicherweise habe ich einen Abschluss namens "First-class Honours" erreicht. Drüber gehts nimmer, kann ich da nicht ganz ohne Stolz sagen :-)

The preliminary results for the LL.M. finally arrived these days, including all essays, exams and the thesis! And now its not only possible to say that I passed the LL.M., but did so with a first-class honours degree :-)

Updates, Changes and Farewell...

Es ist ja mal wieder eine ganze Weile vergangen, seit ich hier etwas geschrieben habe. Das hat mehrere Gründe: Zunächst ist nicht sooo viel passiert. Lediglich die Rückreise aus Irland und ein kurzer Ausflug zur Feier der Masterarbeit in die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate. Über den Ausflug schreibe ich hier mal ausnahmsweise nichts: Fotos gibt es in den bekannten Netzwerken zu sehen...
Rein praktisch gesehen ist der Master in Cork ja abgeschlossen, auch wenn die Bewertung noch aussteht. Deswegen ist es auch langsam an der Zeit, an dieser Stelle schon mal zu einem Abschluss zu kommen. Scheinbar gab es auch den ein oder anderen Leser (m/w), so dass sich mit der Zeit Besucher aus 38 Ländern hier eingefunden haben und sogar bis zu 340 davon am Tag. Woher weiß ich das so genau? Nunja, die Krake ist eben überall. Schön auch zu wissen, dass zumindest einige Mitarbeiter potenzieller zukünftiger Arbeitgeber hierhergefunden haben. Als kleine Auswahl seien da z.B. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Lovells, Hengeler Müller, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Krupp, Porsche und der RBB, aber auch Exoten wie der Computerspielehersteller Blizzard genannt. Wenn jetzt bitte noch jeder Zweite ein Jobangebot abschickt, wäre das m.E. doch ein hinreichender Ausgleich für den Lesegenuss hier :-)
Aber auch ernsthaft betrachtet denke ich, dass sich der Aufwand (hier regelmäßig zu schreiben) schon gelohnt hat, um eben alle, die man so kennt auf halbwegs aktuellem Stand zu halten und ein paar allgemeine Informationen zum juristischen Masterstudium an der UCC bereitzustellen.
Und weil eigentlich alles, was man jetzt noch schreiben könnte nicht mehr viel mit eben diesem Themenbereich zu tun hat, habe ich schon seit längerem einen reltiv ungenutzten Account bei Posterous. Ist Blogger (also dem Anbieter dieser Seite hier) nicht unähnlich, aber deutlich besser mit anderen Diensten vernetzt und deshalb praktischer in der Anwendung. Zu finden ist das Ganze (auch inkl. den meisten Postings von hier) unter:
Wer also weiterhin ab und an etwas von mir lesen will, möchte doch bitte seine Lesezeichen dahingehend anpassen!

Well... You might have noticed the quite long piece of text above. I hope knowbody expects me to translate the whole thing word by word. But as I know there are at least some international readers of this blog (there were visits from 38 countries worldwide, up to 340 visits a day according to the mighty crawler), I'll try to sum up the gist of the posting above. Even some potential future employers (or their employees) found their way to this site (please see the list of companies above for details on this), so hopefully the impression is not too bad to make a job offer ;-)
However, as the thesis is finished and submitted, there isn't too much to write home about concerning me doing the LL.M. in Cork. I returned to Germany and went to a short trip to Dubai afterwards to celebrate the thesis being finished. There won't be any detailed coverage on that, but there are some pictures available at Facebook (for my intl. readers).
But as I found it not too boring to write this blog, I created a new account at Posterous some time ago. There you can find most of the postings from this blog too and you will find future updates, as I'm basically closing this blog here down. So for those of you want to stay somehow in touch: Please change your bookmarks to the new address!
And finally just a short thank you to everybody who did read this blog and made it worthwhile for me to write a new entry once in a while!

Nearly live: Back in Dublin

Just arrived at Dublin Airport after a short 40 minutes flight from Cork. This time, I took AerArann with their quite new turboprop fleet. The picture taken with my mobile shows one of their aircrafts on the apron in Cork. However, my actual plane was the old version in the less attractive livery... Judging from the onboard signs, it was previously owned by a German airline. But that must have been a long time ago! Now its time to wait for the AerLingus flight to Frankfurt... Already have some material for a post on that...

Results

Sooo, hier dann mal Butter bei die Fische: Ein paar (2) Bilder der Masterarbeit(en). Insgesamt gibt es fünf Exemplare, wovon dann nächste Woche drei abgegeben werden. Alles in allem nicht wirklich günstig in der Anschaffung, aber das Geld wert... Wer will schon das repräsentative Ergebnis eines ganzen Abschlusses in einer qualitativen Billigfassung?

As you might have guessed from the pictures above: These are the hardcopies of my thesis. There are five copies, whilst only three have to be submitted next week. The charged basically an arm and a leg for the copies, but who really wants to have the results of a whole degree in a cheap package?

Das Spiel ist aus!

Mitterweile ist es schon wieder ein Monat seit dem letzten Eintrag vergangen... Allerdings kann ich von mir behaupten, die Zeit produktiv genutzt zu haben. Schon seit letztem Montag (14.09.09) ist der Inhalt meiner Masterarbeit fertig! Ja, genau: Alles geschrieben, referenziert und formatiert. Ein paar Daten:

Und das alles gerademal für einen Abschluss... :-)
Wie dem auch sei, für ca. 14 Wochen ist das schon ganz ansehnlich. Und 14 Wochen ja auch nur, wenn man davon ausgeht, dass ich 24 Stunden am Tag an der Masterarbeit gearbeitet hätte (da wird ja wohl niemand dran zweifeln!!).
Auf jeden Fall werden dann drei ordentlich gedruckte, gebundene und mit Silberprägung auf Deckel und Rücken versehene Exemplare Ende des Monats gen Irland aufbrechen, um das Abgabedatum (01.10.09) exakt einzuhalten. Bzw. ich werde dorthin aufbrechen, weil sowas schickt man ja nicht per Post.
Die Reiseroute: Kassel - Frankfurt - London - Southampton - London - Cork - Dublin - Frankfurt - Kassel. Leider wurde der zweite Abschnitt (Frankfurt - London) erst vor gar nicht mal so langer Zeit eingefügt. Vorher war das noch mit Zwischenstopp in Antwerpen. Aber manche Airlines stellen manche Routen auch mal ein, nachdem man gebucht hat... Also neu gebucht bei der größten Airline in Europa. Das ganze ist ja jetzt auch fast der direkte Weg nach Cork und zurück ;-)

As you might have guessed from the numbers above: My thesis is finished! Actually since last Monday, to be honest. The statistics above show some numbers relating to my work:

Actually I'm travelling via Frankfurt, London, Southampton and London again to get to Cork (and return through Dublin and Frankfurt). There was another stop between Frankfurt and London (Antwerp) before, but the airline decided to cut the route due to the recession, making another booking with Europe's largest airline (Lufthansa, since last week) necessary...

Today the TED Global 2009 Conference starts in Oxford, England. Because of being part of the early translators team, I'm able to access the live webcast from Oxford for the following days :-)
